John James Audubon
1785-1851

John James Audubon 1785-1851 was a French  colonial naturalist and painter.  A vibrant and multi talented individual, he led a wildly colorful life.  He arrived in America in 1803 on a forged passport and made his way to Kentucky by 1809.  At one point he worked as a taxidermist.  He travelled widely in the Americas, including Key West, Newfoundland, and Labrador archiving and cataloguing wildlife with chalk, pastels, watercolor, and gouache.

Canadian Creatures

This page presents links to some images of Canadian Creatures  by John James Audubon.  Please forgive me if I have omitted any important species, or included any that do not belong on a Canadian informational page.

Please visit the many links on these pages.  There are wonderful sites dedicated to Audubon's work and the sale of his art. I hope I have given proper references to each source represented by these images.
